JEAN V. PUGH

Jean V. Pugh

Fort Walton Beach, Florida

An awarding winning , multi-media artist, Jean’s work is often described as colorful, elegant and expressive.  This work is inspired by her Christian Faith, a love of fashion, jazz music, cultures of Africa and  beloved grandma who introduced her to art at a very young age.

Originally from Charleston, West Virginia, Jean has had some formal training, but fondly remembers that the initial training began at her grandma’s kitchen table  One of her favorite past time while growing up was drawing and designing clothing for paper-dolls. After high school, the desire to illustrate fashion led her to study at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and later Fine Arts at West Virginia State College.

In 1978, putting her art  on hold, she spent the next twenty years serving in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1998. She resumed drawing 2 years later. Over the past few years, Jean has experimented with different  mediums which include Stained Glass, used to create unique, hand-cut mosaic wall hangings. She has lived in Fort Walton Beach, FL  for 14 years with her family, which includes 2 Cocker Spaniels.  Her work can be found at the Gumbo Gallery and DeVilliers Cultural Heritage Museum in Pensacola Florida, Beal Street Bottle Club, FWB where she is a featured artist.
